A while back I attended Dani Johnson’s First Steps to Success live training seminar and thought it was definitely worth the money. I also have Dani’s Prospecting and Closing Script Book and it has been a great resource. It covers almost all possible scenarios when talking to MLM leads.

Whether you’re in a health network marketing company or some other type of MLM, I think you’ll get a lot of value from Dani Johnson’s script book.

Who is Dani Johnson, anyways?

Dani Johnson is one of the most well known stories to come out of the world of Network Marketing. A broke cocktail waitress – living homeless with only $2.03 to her name, Dani Johnson had just lived through her husband stealing everything she had and running off to another country with all of her money. Homeless, broke and destitute of every success she had ever had, she started a distributorship in the Home Business industry off of borrowed money.

In 10 hours, she had made nearly $2000. That year, from a business she started out of a car and a pay-phone, she pulled in more than $250,000 in profit and has since gone on to be one of the most remarkable leaders in the history of Network Marketing.

What is the Script Book I’ve heard so much talk about?

Dani is by far the best recruiter that I have ever heard in the Home Business world. She is one of those ‘prodigy’ business owners that have a skill level that almost seems unnatural because it is so comprehensive. The script book is a collection of the words, phrases, and questions that Dani Johnson personally used to recruit 30-100 people a month into her primary opportunity.

In the Script Book, there are two audio training CD’s that come along in the package that explain the techniques, principles, and strategies you need to know when using the Dani Johnson scripts.

In the CD’s, you get to hear Dani Johnson personally role playing with several people using her own scripts, and it helps to understand the tone and posture that should be in your voice while recruiting.

What principles drive the Dani Johnson Script Book?

Dani’s techniques are driven by the same ideas that create all relationship-recruiting processes.

She focuses on building a strong rapport with her prospects and finding out what key factors they are looking for in an opportunity. She then drives the entire recruiting process around the core elements that her prospect already told her they wanted.

In short, Dani’s approach is personalized to the individual based on their goals, needs, and wants. She does this by asking questions, listening, and making people feel genuinely cared about and appreciated.

What are some of the advantages to using the Dani Johnson Script Book?

There are both some advantages and disadvantages to using the Dani Johnson script book that you need to consider before you decide to base your business recruiting off of these strategies.

The advantages are many. If you use the script book, you have a simple guide to judge your recruiting mistakes by, and it allows for tremendous feedback and improvement in the sponsoring process.

The script book gives you a good idea of what you should and should not say if you really want to be a sponsoring dynamo in this industry. Also, the Dani Johnson techniques are proven through thousands of testimonials to be effective in helping people even with no previous success to recruit like crazy.

There are also some strong disadvantages to using the Dani Johnson script book, however. You might not enjoy reading a script when you are on the phone. You also might just plain not enjoy the Dani Johnson recruiting methods, or the way she talks to people.

For a period of time in my business, I had a lot of people in my team using the Dani Johnson script book. While it certainly was successful for those who were good with it, it actually made some people worse at recruiting because the process was so ‘against their grain.’ In short, the script book is definitely not the solution for everyone, while it certainly provides effective strategies for certain people.

The other thing to consider if you want to work with Dani’s script book is where you buy your leads.

The script book certainly does work for those who are trained and practice a great deal with it. However still need quality prospects to talk to. Most MLM trainers would recommend that you purchase leads from lead vendors and ‘cold-call’ them. Working with purchased leads can be frustrating, expensive, and a poor use of time unless you are a ‘Ninja’ at recruiting.

A more cost effective strategy with the internet today is learning how to generate your own leads, who know who you are and are expecting a phone call from you. Those people much more easy to recruit, and it takes less time and is easier for your team to learn.

Consider creating a strong, simple and effective attraction marketing system into your business – you’ll be on your way to recruiting more distributors faster than you ever have dreamed possible!

I remember when I first started calling MLM leads I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know what to say to potential prospects (it wasn’t until later that I developed a simple script to follow) which was bad enough. But even worse, I didn’t have the right mindset for calling leads.

When I didn’t get good results right away I got discouraged and quit calling leads consistently. Luckily, that’s changed for me, and I’ll share with you my secret for calling leads and not getting discouraged (hint: it has nothing to do with having the right script).

Network marketers usually think that the trick to success with calling business opportunity leads is having the right script. It’s almost like people think there are certain magic words you can say that will compel person after person to join your business. If that were the case, though, then I’d have been a success with leads a long time ago because I got the best lead scripts available.

There are lots of resources you can turn to for scripts to follow when calling leads. Dani Johnson and Todd Falcone are two great examples and I recommend their scripts highly. While using a good script when calling leads is important, I think what’s even more important is having the proper mindset. In fact, if I had to list the three most important things you need to successfully call MLM leads it would be:

1. The right mindset
2. A never-ending source of targeted leads
3. A good script

In that order.

I’ll talk about getting quality leads and a good script in other articles because you need to make sure your head is in the right place first. So I’m going to share with you the three books that most influenced my ability to successfully call MLM leads. Read these books and you’ll see an improvement in your results, too.

The first one is The Slight Edge: Secret to a Successful Life by Jeff Olson. This book is so good that not only should every network marketer read it, EVERYONE who wants to be successful at anything should read it. It does a great job of explaining that success is based on tiny, seemingly-insignificant actions repeated over and over. This applies to anything anyone could strive for. After reading this book you’ll understand why you’re more likely to succeed by calling even just a few leads every day versus calling a bunch of leads at once.

The Slight Edge will help you overcome that nagging feeling after the first couple of days calling leads and apparently not getting anywhere that “this isn’t working.” It really is!

The second book you need to read before calling MLM leads is Go for No! by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz. This is a thin but powerful book telling the story of a salesman who learns why he’s not nearly as successful in sales as he could be.

Everyone in sales needs to read Go for No! (and yes, if you’re in network marketing, you’re in sales) but even if you’re not in sales you’ll enjoy the story and get a lot out of it. My wife read this book and she told me ways she would apply what she learned even though she’s not in sales.

Go for No! will help you understand that the secret to success in sales is getting as many No’s as possible. This book will completely wash your fear of rejection away. No’s aren’t a rejection of you–they are simply a necessary part of the sales process. You’ll understand the ultimate irony of sales: the more No’s you get, the more successful you will be. Crazy, huh?

The third and final book you need to read before calling MLM leads is Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by master motivator Brian Tracy. This is an excellent book that is full of tips for helping you not just get things done, but get the right things done. It doesn’t matter if you understand why calling leads consistently is important and you’ve overcome your fear of rejection if you never end up calling leads because you’re too busy playing Bejeweled.

Eat that Frog will show you why it’s so important to get the essential things done right away. You’ll know exactly how to prioritize your actions and your days.

To recap, if you haven’t read these books, go get them now and read them. I recommend you read them in this order:

1. The Slight Edge: Secret to a Successful Life
2. Go for No!
3. Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time

You’ll then have the skills necessary to successfully call MLM leads.
